Mowgli, a little boy, grows up amongst a family of wolves in the jungles. He is taught the language and law of the jungle by Baloo, the bear. And is guarded by Bagheera the Panther. With his wolf-brothers and other friends in the jungle, Mowgli leads a happy and carefree life. Rudyard Kipling was born in Bombay in 1865, where he spent his early childhood. He was sent to England for his schooling. He returned to India as an adult and his experiences in India have left a deep mark in his writings. He was the first Englishman to receive the Nobel Prize for literature (1907) and his contribution to English literature is considerable. Among his writings , The Jungle Book taken remains a great favourite. He died in 1936.
