Spoken English: A Manual of Speech and Phonetics is a book for students who wish to improve their pronunciation of English and acquire the correct patterns of stress, rhythm and intonation. Common errors that occur in the speech of Indian speakers of English are discussed and hints are provided so that students can work towards achieving international intelligibility.

The book has two parts. Part I gives an introduction to phonetics and information about the sound system of English. Part II contains useful exercises for drills and practice.

The book is accompanied by a DVD to help with pronunciation and the practice of spoken English.

The late Dr R K Bansal was Professor of Phonetics and Spoken English, The English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad.

Dr J B Harrison was formerly Lecturer, School of Education, University of Leicester, U K. Also, formerly Visiting Professor of Spoken English, The English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad.
