The main objective of a basic course in Engineering Mechanics is to enable the student to understand and analyse the actions and reactions of bodies at rest or in motion. For this a thorough understanding of the underlying physics is necessary, along with the ability to solve problems in a simple and logical manner. The contents of this book have been developed keeping this in mind. M V Seshagiri Rao is a professor heading the Civil Engineering Department, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) College of Engineering, Hyderabad. He has postgraduate degrees in Structural Engineering and Software Systems and has 27 years of experience in the field of teaching, research, construction and consultancy. 

D Rama Durgaiah is retired professor of Civil Engineering from JNTU with 37 years of experience as a teacher, researcher and consultant. His areas of expertise are hydraulics and water resources engineering.
