The People’s Linguistic Survey of India provides an overview of the extant and dying languages of India, as perceived by their speakers. It is the culmination of a nation-wide survey of languages, documented by linguists, writers, social activists and, most importantly, members of different speech communities. The work chronicles the evolution of these languages until 2011, and incorporates their socio-political and cultural dimensions. Critically, it encapsulates the world view of the speakers of the languages.

PLSI Sikkim Ki Bhashayen volume offers a detailed discussion about the languages spoken in the culturally and linguistically rich state of Sikkim. Its geographical location has allowed it to be influenced by the languages of Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan and West Bengal. This in turn has impacted the languages of the state too. Folktales, folk songs, origin myths and vocabulary lists are provided to help the reader have a better understanding of the linguistic scenario of the state. The volume examines grammatical features and also the number of speakers of each language, with data taken from actual field work.

This volume covers the following 16 languages: 1. Nepali 2.Kulung 3.Gurung 4.Tamang 5.Tibetan 6.Thami 7. Newar 8.Bhujel  9.Bhotia 10.Magar 11.Majhi 12.Rai 13.Limboo 14 Lepcha 15.Sherpa 16. Sunuwar
